Cacao Cattery
Carissa Altschul has been involved in raising and showing Persians her
whole
life, in a literal sense! She was born in 1978, and her parents had
already
been raising and showing Persians (Himalayans, more specifically, at that
point) for 7 years prior to her birth. Her earliest memories include
sitting inside a portable baby crib watching her mother, Janet, groom cats
for the show ring.
Carissa took an active interest in showing cats in her early teens,
attending shows with Janet for many weekends out of the year. As the
years
went by, Carissa began attending the shows on her own, loving the
experiences, and Janet stayed home to spare the cost of a pet sitter.
Attending 20-30 shows a year, Carissa has a busy schedule with her
showing,
not to mention the time at home to care for the cats there. Carissa is
also
an active member of the CFA Mentor Program, has served as Regional
Director
for the Gulf Shore Region, and recently successfully campaigned 2 cats to
CFA National Wins.
Linechasing and the importance of pedigrees was instilled in Carissa at an
early age by Janet, and she has always had an active interest in
maitaining
their cattery website and database of pedigrees. In 2003, Janet and
Carissa
began a small American Shorthair program. Finding pedigrees on American
Shorthairs was nearly impossible! To that end, the Cacao database will
not
just be about Persians, but eventually will include American Shorthairs
(focused on Silver Tabbies) and American Wirehairs (a new breed Cacao has
started dabbling with in 2010).
